Salam,
Alhamdulillah, our Srikandi Family Day for 2010 at the Elephant Sanctuary,Kuala Gandah today was a success. We had 13 Srikandis that contributed to a total of 61 family family members who joined the event. The weather was fine and we first watched a video show on issues affecting wild elephants, their diminishing habitat and translocartion for half an hour.
We then went to 'meet' the elephants in the recreation area, and encouraged to hand feed the elephants for their 'lunch' with groundnuts. 32 of our kids got to ride the elephants on their back without saddle. Ouch! But exhillarating.
Unfortunately we were not able to play 'mandi' with the elephants in the river due to high water level caused by heavy rain the night before. Nevertheless, everybody enjoyed the day playing with big and baby elephants. Lunch, a delicious gourmet of Pahang nasi lemak + rendang ayam, was arranged by SK Hasanah/65 from Temerloh; who also contributed watermelon for dessert.
We made some collection and managed to contribute RM 200 to the sanctuary and some for our Srikandi Fund. SK Hasanah suggested that next year we overnight at Taman Negara or probably climb the Kinabalu. Hope more will join the Srikandi Family Day event next year.
On the way back we stopped by at Deerland a few metres and saw the deers (sorry pictures in videocam), some other animals like rabbits, some beautiful birds species, bears and a friendly snake.
Pictures show group pictures of Srikandis, families and activities with the elephants
